I finally got sick of the boxes of mixed and assorted toys that abound in our house.
Not only do they take up heaps of floor space, but each individual one contains about 10% of each type of toy, making it impossible to ever find a full set of anything!
Last week at the shops they had these neat 5 litre plastic containers with lids for $2.50 each. They’ll fit perfectly onto a shelf in our tall bookcase (I didn’t want to unpack those books in the garage, anyway).
I bought half a dozen and with some brightly coloured labels they’ll be great for keeping themed toys and sets together. I’m going back today or tomorrow to get some more, as it’s a really handy size.
So far, we have pirates in the bottom box, dinosaurs above that and at the top, a bridge & road set. And yes, I know the photo is a bit tilted, but that’s just because I have one leg shorter than the other.
~ Now I just have to go through all the baskets and boxes… and drawers and cupboards… and under the lounge… and the trundle bed… and find all the bits and pieces that go together. ![]()

That is a really fantastic idea. I need to organize those kind of things. Maybe if I bite the bullet and buy them, I’ll do it!
We are THAT family’s last blog post..Bloggy Giveaway!
I agree, it’s definitely easier to organise if the containers are ready to go.
Oh I need something like this. My boys room especially is becoming overrun. I found some great tote-like storage containers at Lowes that match the decor in their room. Some galvanized steel bucket looking things too. Good for coloring books
Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting’s last blog post..*Whew*
What great containers you found for the toys. One of my organizing rules is not only does it need to be organized it needs to look pretty or cute too! Yours are darling!
Your whole site is darling and what fun ideas!
@Lisa & Leigh Anne ~ I love the lids on these because they keep out the dust.
At the moment I’m making up some more labels for the containers to hold Wren’s polly pocket & littlest pet shop toys.
I love storage boxes … pity the duo loves to empty them but I keep trying - toddler toys are a little bigger but I like the idea a lot for smaller stuff. The labels too - brilliant.
