Birthday lunch
Grandma treated us all to lunch at the Hogsbreath Cafe, to celebrate the bump’s 5th birthday on the other weekend.
‘Cause the kidz have been asking and asking (and asking and asking)…. and asking and asking…
Okay, I’m sure you get the idea.
Anyways, Grandma whispered to the girls that it was a special day and they brought out this humongous chocolate brownie with cream, ice cream and chocolate syrup.
Oh, and don’t forget there were sprinkles, too.
And they also sang a whacky, impossible-to-understand birthday song, with much stomping-of-feet and hand-clapping.
The Bump was stunned. In a quietly-pleased kind of way. And shy.
And shocked at the size of his dessert, especially since he already had a bowl of ice cream in front of him.
- Although he did share it with us all.
Mama had been thinking about ordering one herself, but decided that her hips didn’t need the help.
~ They could only just fit in between the kidz’ car seats on the way to lunch.
But guess who finished the whole doodad off?
That’s right.
And it was gooood.
Another Thomas Birthday Cake
Since we’ve been kind of busy with buying a house and all, there’s no plans for a Wren b’day party this year so far. ~ Not to mention the money issue.
Apparently I’m pretty short on time for more than just parties at the moment, and I’ve been pretty slack with blogging, too.
So anyhoo, here’s a little something I prepared earlier to keep you occupied while we do the packing and moving stuff.

I thought that Thomas’ face would be a bit different to last year’s effort, so I traced the outline from a picture and got to work.
I used the same grease-proof paper technique for the eyes and mouth.
For the outlines, I would usually use finely cut liquorice, but unfortunately I went to the cupboard and the cupboard was bare…
The only thing I could see that would work was some White Wings ’space food sticks’, and they turned out fine.
Around the face at the edge of the cake is a line of small silver cachous. At the top is a chocolate muffin cut into the shape of Thomas’ funnel.
Rhys also decided he was interested in pirates the day before the party, so that’s what the things at the bottom of the cake are: Pirate candles, the perfect accompaniment to a Thomas the tank engine cake, don’t you think?
Happy Birthday to Me
Yep, at 8:10pm this evening I’ll be officially 36 years of age.
In my mid- to late-30’s.
Whoopee!
I’m not concerned, age is all in the mind isn’t it?
Considering that I wore one of my birthday bras strapped onto my head for half an hour, I’d say my mind is in no danger of becoming middle-aged just yet.
It’s really kind of sad that neither Wren nor Mr Bump saw anything particularly strange in my behaviour.
They didn’t even laugh…
