I used to love going through my mum’s button tin.
There were so many different shapes and colours that it completely absorbed my attention for hours at a time.
Recently, Mum passed her magical button tin down to me, and I found that it held the same fascination for Wren and Mr Bump.
They spent hours sorting by colour, shape, size and prettiness.
Together.
A perfect cure for wet weather boredom.
Some things are just timeless, and now I can start collecting buttons to add to the magical button tin, too.

My daughter received a box of buttons for her birthday with a book called: Button, Button, Whose got the Button? 101 Button Games -by Hajo Bucken - it has brought lots of fun to our house!

when I was a kid I would play “hide the button” It kept my cousin and I entertained for hours. Since buttons are small we had a lot more places to hide it than if we played real hide n seek. Of course there were those time when you hid it so well that when the seekers finally gave up searching you had forgotten where you put it. Not that that ever happened to me:)
OMG - if we did that here in the monster house, I think it would be “raining” buttons.
lol - but I LOVE how your kids sorted it all out together.
Together.

what is it about buttons? I used to love going through my grandmas buttons and even now as an adult, I love when I find pretty little buttons at flea markets and such. I’m banking this idea for when my daughter is older….right now buttons could pass as something fun to swallow
I used to do it with buttons too. My mother sewed a lot and had a full button box, I could spend hours trying to match the buttons. This is an activity that helps kids to concentrate. I don’t have buttons now but I used matching cards to help their concentration.

I love buttons! I still have a big plastic box of them that I picked up from a garage sale somewhere. Whenever I see some, I buy them. There’s just something about them!

K i love that…I use to play with marbles like those buttons…they entertained me for hours…never played a game with them, just sorted them and rolled them and stuff like that! So cool that it was handed down to you, how special!

I used to love going through buttons when I was a kid too. What is it about those little things? I love my button collection and hope that one day M & F can get some enjoyment out of sorting and playing with them … once they are past the ‘this is a choking hazard’ phase of course

I love this idea and have been hunting in op shops for jars of buttons myself. It so cool that your mum saved them.
