Snail Mail with a Twist
by Jane on Saturday, 28th June 2008

I have always loved writing, choosing nice paper, the feel of the pen moving over paper, adding little doodles around the edges.

Writing letters was one thing that kept me sane during what I have come to refer to as the dark years. That time when my health was at it’s worst, when my friends from school were off at uni or first jobs and I was stuck at home in bed, sleeping my life away.

I realised yesterday that somewhere along the line I got so busy that I forgot all about letters, and how much fun it is to send and receive mail.

Don’t you just L.O.V.E. it when it’s not a bill in the letterbox??

Today, when I was stumbling along, I found this site called letterfu where you can print foldable letter/envelope combo’s that you seal shut with a postage stamp.

They call it “letter~writing without envelopes, cutting or glue”, but I did have to trim the page a bit. I thought I’d give it a try by sending one to my niece down South.

I just hope it doesn’t rain between here and her house, because our printer is an inkjet.

  1. letter-writing has indeed been overtaken by the internet. i can still remember the times when i would send a letter to a friend who is another place (called pen pal), then we will wait for days before she gets the letter. the excitement, the thrill of receiving a letter in an envelope was just so much fun! i can also remember the time when i would collect colorful and scented stationeries.

i better grab a pen and paper and write a letter to someone… now, who could that someone be?

  2. I would love to have something other than a bill in the post! Like the sound of those pretty letters and envelopes.

  3. Ooh… I like this idea - how fun!! I’m gonna go check out Letterfu right now and see if they have any “boy” themes. Getting them to write their thank-you notes is hard enough - maybe with a little help from Letterfu, it might not be so difficult the next time…

    lol - thanx for sharing!!

  6. I had a few pen pals too, although I lost touch with the last of them about 10 years ago.

Their range is a little limited, but you can submit your own design(s) to letterfu as well, if anyone’s interested.

And hey, if anyone wants a letter just email me… You can keep it and say you knew me before I was famous. ;)

  7. I love that idea … might have to try that when the snarky teens go to camp and can’t take the cell phones!
