Mr Bump got busy with some craft at Granma’s a couple of weeks ago, designing and making himself a camera. He’s good at the technical, electronic stuff.
He got an old biscuit box from the recycling for the camera body and a toilet roll for the lens. Granma was then given strict directions on cutting a hole and inserting the lens in the centre.
After that, he asked for some paper for the screen. Now for those people like me who were born last century (in the 1900’s, fergossakes!), a screen comes on a television or a computer. But for little people like Mr Bump and Wren, they are also an integral part of cameras.
Remember when photos went on a film? My kids just can’t fathom it!
So Mum had no idea what Mr Bump meant when he talked about a screen for his camera. She has a digital camera and uses it all the time, but her concept of a camera just didn’t include a screen. Took her a little while, but she finally realised what he meant.
But back to the screen:
Taped onto the back of the camera body is a wad of notepaper, where Mr Bump draws pictures of the things after he takes a ‘picture’ of them. I thought that was a really great idea of his!
I have to admit that when Mum told me the story, I didn’t know why he wanted a screen either. So what does that say about me?
